A BIG WEEK FOR THE PAWR PROGRAM!

As a friend of the US Ignite community, we want to let you know about several exciting news announcements this week regarding the Platforms for Advanced Wireless Research program. The PAWR program is funded by the National Science Foundation and jointly managed by the PAWR Project Office (PPO) comprised of US Ignite and Northeastern University.

First, the PPO announced the launch of the third PAWR testbed in the Research Triangle area of North Carolina. The Aerial Experimentation and Research Platform for Advanced Wireless – or AERPAW – will power research on wireless communications for unmanned aerial systems (UAS) and ground mobility at a regional scale.

At the same time, we also released an RFP for a fourth and final PAWR testbed with a focus on rural broadband. Letters of intent to apply are due on October 25, and full proposals are due December 13.

Finally, we are pleased to share that the Federal Communications Commission also announced this week that it is naming our PAWR testbeds in Salt Lake City and the West Harlem neighborhood of New York City as the first-ever Innovation Zones for experimental spectrum research. The announcement brings significant new spectrum assets to the PAWR platforms.
