Welcome to what’s new and newsworthy at US Ignite. Another busy month in October saw the launch of our Fort Carson smart transportation testbed, the advent of a new collaboration with DARPA and our Platforms for Advanced Wireless Research (PAWR) program, and a showcase opportunity for two of our Smart Gigabit Communities at the SCTE Cable-Tec Expo conference in New Orleans. Fort Carson Launch – US Ignite announced the launch of a smart transportation testbed and autonomous vehicle (AV) pilot program this month in coordination with Fort Carson, Colorado Springs, and the University of Colorado. The $4 million project is funded by the U.S. Army Engineer Research and Development Center.

Spectrum Collaboration Challenge – DARPA took the stage at Mobile World Congress Los Angeles to host the final match of its Spectrum Collaboration Challenge (SC2). The massive radio infrastructure that supported SC2 is now transferring to the Platforms for Advanced Wireless Research (PAWR) program.

SGC Communities – Alison Barlow from St. Petersburg, Florida, and Dominic Papa from Phoenix, Arizona, joined partners from Spectrum and Cox Communications on stage at the SCTE Cable-Tec Expo in New Orleans to talk about cable providers as smart city strategy advisors. Video highlights coming soon.

Smart City Resiliency – Deputy Chief Resilience Officer for D.C. Harrison Newton talked about the dangers of "death by pilot" at our most recent Forum workshop on Smart City Resiliency. Triangle Smart Cities Summit – The new PAWR testbed known as AERPAW was the highlight of this year’s Summit. A panel of experts spoke on stage about AERPAW’s role in drone experimentation, and the fact that the wireless technologies tested on the platform will contribute not only to 5G tech, but to 6G, 7G, and beyond.
